February 2005

» Hard to believe a month has slid by. Thank you all for your warm words of support in response to the "little school on the prairie". So far it has proven to be a wonderful thing. Classes are steadily filling and the paintings created by the artists are beautiful.

As well as teaching, I have been painting away. I'm still trying to catch the humming vibrations of light as they colour a particular moment. My newest work is this portrait commission in which I experimented with the paint application of the Delft school of the 16th century (Vermeer and his contemporaries). I'll continue practicing this technique because, though it is time consuming, it traps light onto the surface of the canvas. In a few days you can see the entire painting on the website.

One important announcement for this month is that we will not be celebrating the Grand Opening of the Coloured Web School of Figurative Art and Shanti Yoga until early March. Originally we had hoped to have the event on Saturday February 12th. Instead, there will be a free painting and drawing session (by donation) on that day from 2:30- 5:30pm with a gathering of passionate art folk after. Come and take part in the relaxing artistic environment.

This month I received a wonderful birthday invitation from a wise soul. On it was the following quote from a book I have yet to read. The message speaks directly. May we all live with awareness of these words:

"Talking is teaching.
Listening is learning.
Education is sharing.
Experience is seed,
and even the bitterest seed will grow.
Culture is the fruit of common experience-
a common responsibility, and
our common wealth.
If work is love made visible,
then love is everywhere you look."

~Kiko Denzer -Author of Build Your Own Earth Oven

(Thank you Brandy, and happy belated birthday!)

Please continue to write and send your love-vibes.
May we together realize the full unity of all things.
Be well, be mindful

Love
